2022 Cabernet Franc

Phinny Hill Vineyard

My original plan was to include the Cab Franc in my blended red wine – after all, isn’t Cab Franc supposed to be a blending grape? My first dip into a barrel of the first Cab Franc I made (in 2004) threw that plan out the window! Columbia Valley Cab Franc can be far too good to blend – it clearly can stand on its own.

That 2004 Cabernet Franc was an absolute fruit bomb. The 2005 was nearly identical. The 2006 did it again. The 2007 was a star of the vintage, one of my favorite wines of 2007. Same for the 2008. And the 2009 and the 2010. There was no 2011 due to a freeze. The 2012 was gorgeous as was the 2013, the 2014, and so on, and now, the 2022…

Well, here we go again! Dark with forward, complex aromatics, it has a big, smooth mid-palate and a long finish.
