2015 Cabernet Franc
When Paul Champoux offered us Cab Franc grapes in 2004, we jumped at the chance, having decided long ago to take anything he offers. We love what he's doing in the vineyard. The wines made from his fruit are intense and full of character, clearly differentiating themselves from all others.
My original plan was to include the Cab Franc in my blended red wine - after all, isn’t Cab Franc supposed to be a blending grape? My first dip into a barrel of that first Cab Franc threw that plan out the window! The wine was far too good to blend - it clearly stood on its own.
That 2004 Cabernet Franc was an absolute fruit bomb. The 2005 was nearly identical. The 2006 did it again. The 2007 was a star of the vintage, one of my favorite wines of 2007. Same for the 2008. And the 2009 and the 2010. There was no 2011 due to a freeze. The 2012 was gorgeous as was the 2013 and 2014.
Now, the 2015...
Well, here we go again! Dark with forward, complex aromatics, it has a big, smooth mid-palate and a long finish.
