"Baby Poux" was the name bestowed on a special block of Champoux Vineyards by Woodward Canyon's winemaker, Rick Small. It was the first section of the vineyard new owner Paul Champoux set to work on after taking over the old (and legendary) Mercer Ranch Vineyard.
It was immediately apparent something wonderful had happened. The first wines off this block were dark and abundantly fruity, rich and concentrated with their own special character: an approachable quality few Cabs possess.
On top of that, as the vineyard gets older, the wines off Baby Poux are getting more and more complex and interesting. They are starting to rival Block One!
We take special care of the fruit we get off this block; sorting, delicately destemming, gravity racking and long aging in mainly new French oak.
The wine is very dark, well structured and surprisingly accessible for such a young wine, the result of gentle handling.
